Educational Opportunities in Coweta County, GA

Residents of Coweta Hills Community have a wide variety of educational opportunities. From kindergarten through to post-graduate degree programs, students and their families do not have to leave Coweta County to receive a world-class education.

Coweta County has a highly desired public school system made up of 31 schools serving 23,000 students. The school system boasts three Georgia Teachers of the Year and a National Middle School Principal of the Year. Several Coweta County Schools have been named state Rewards Schools, Schools of Excellence, and national Blue Ribbon schools. The student teacher ratio averages just over 18 students per teacher.

Coweta County students outperformed the state average on The Georgia Criterion Reference Competency Test in 2013 – a test covering five subjects across six grade levels. Coweta County School System students met or exceeded the state average in all 30 areas. Of the 1,700 educators in the school system, 25% have 20 plus years of teaching experience and 65% hold a Master’s degree or higher.

Coweta Hills Community is in a preferred school district served by Moreland Elementary, East Coweta Middle School and East Coweta High School. The school bus system serves the property.

Moreland Elementary (K-5)

“Working together to do our best, growing and learning is our quest.” is more than just a school motto at Moreland Elementary. This award-winning community elementary school was one of only four schools in the state of Georgia awarded the 2014 Georgia Department of Education’s Family-Friendly Partnership School Award. East Coweta Middle School (6-8)

east coweta middle school logoEast Coweta Middle School students are among the brightest in the state and they have the awards to prove it. They brought home 8 first place awards from the West Georgia Technology Fair 2014 – an annual technology fair open to students who attend public schools, private schools, and home-schools in Carroll County, Carrollton City, Coweta County, Harris County, Heard County, Meriwether County, and Troup County. They also swept the podium in a number of categories.

East Coweta High School

east-coweta-graduationEast Coweta High School is the home of the Indians. Their marching band and choral programs have received state and international recognition – the marching band was a semi-finalist 2010-2014 at the Winter Guard International World Championships. East Coweta High students were National Championships and runners-up in Marine Corps JROTC Rifle Team. The baseball team has had five players drafted by Major League Baseball, one of which was chosen in the first round.

Academically, East Coweta High School does well too. 27% of their students are enrolled in at least 1 AP course and the 2014 graduating class included 54 AP Scholars, 19 AP Scholars with Honor, 19 AP Scholars with Distinction and 1 National AP Scholar. Students score above state averages on the SAT and four year graduation rates exceed the state average.

Central Educational Center

Coweta County high school students have a wide variety of options. They can attend their local high school as well as the CEC or Central Educational Center. The CEC offers students work-based learning programs.

Along with the variety of colleges and universities in and around Atlanta, there are a number of choices for students wishing to stay just a little closer to home.

West Georgia Technical College

West Georgia Technical College offers courses at their new Coweta Campus located only 3 miles from Coweta Hills Community. Their offerings include business administration, criminal justice, early childhood development learning and instruction, and computer technology. Mercer University – Newnan Regional Academic Center

Mercer University offers programs at the Coweta County Central Education Center through their Tift College of Education and the College of Continuing and Professional Studies. (Mercer University)

University of West Georgia

The University of West Georgia-Newnan offers core curriculum classes, Bachelor of Science degree programs in Nursing and Early Childhood Education along with Master’s degree programs in business administration, early childhood education, middle grades education and special education.
